Silk or Matt? Choosing an Interior Wall Paint Finish

Start with the appearance you want

A colour choice and a finish choice are two separate decisions. The same general colour can feel different in a matt finish and in a finish with a soft sheen. Before selecting a product, think about the room, the direction of the light and the surface you want to paint. Your existing wall condition matters alongside the appearance you prefer.

In Crown’s interior range, Silk Vinyl Emulsion is documented as a washable decorative paint with a soft silk appearance. Vinyl Luxury Matt Emulsion provides a matt appearance on suitable prepared interior surfaces. Those descriptions give you a useful starting point; the exact product sheet remains the reference for the proposed application.

Compare the whole product, not just its sheen

Check the intended use, substrate, preparation and application information on each product page. A product selected for an interior wall should not automatically be used on a floor, roof, exterior surface or specialist exposure. Likewise, two paints described as matt may have different specifications. Crown Covermatt Emulsion is another named interior family to consider through its own documentation.

Look at the surface before deciding how much paint to request. Is it new plaster, a sound previously painted wall, a chalking area or an old oil-based finish? These are different starting points. The manufacturer’s preparation and primer route should match the actual surface rather than a generic assumption that every repaint needs the same products.

Make the colour reference clear

Use a manufacturer shade reference or colour code where possible. A general name such as cream, grey or blue leaves room for interpretation. Screen settings, lighting and surrounding colours also affect how an image looks. The homepage colour inspiration is a way to begin a conversation about a palette; it does not identify a Crown shade code.

If you have an existing painted surface to match, tell the team which colour reference you are working from and whether the original product is known. Confirm the finish as well as the shade. Keep the product name and colour reference together when you add the line to a quotation request.

Plan quantity and preparation together

Measure the approximate wall area and decide which surfaces are included. Doors, windows, texture, repairs and the specified coating sequence affect planning. Where a product page provides a calculator based on a documented coverage range, use it as an estimate rather than a guaranteed yield. Actual consumption depends on the surface and application.

Include preparation materials that the selected system calls for, together with the verified pack options and requested number of packs. If the system is uncertain, describe the wall and ask about the preparation route. A clearer request is more useful than increasing the quantity of a finish to compensate for an unsuitable base.

Send a request that can be checked

Add the exact product, pack size, colour reference and quantity to your quotation list. Include the project location and any delivery question in the message. KariVex checks sourcing, price and arrangements before confirming the quotation.
