The product, in perspective.
Universal Undercoat is an alkyd intermediate coating used between suitable preparation coats and decorative finishes. Identify both the substrate and finishing paint to check the complete system.
An undercoat to bring a prepared surface toward its decorative finish. An undercoat and a primer have different roles. New bare material may still need its appropriate primer before this intermediate coat.
Where it works.
The documented surface or use for Crown Universal Undercoat is suitably prepared interior or exterior substrates. Identify the actual material and its condition before selecting the preparation and finishing system. An existing coating, a newly prepared base and a repaired area can need different treatment.
- An undercoat to bring a prepared surface toward its decorative finish.
- Available quotation packs and component requirements are checked for your selected product, rather than inferred from another grade.
Before you start.
Prepare a clean, firm surface and select the substrate-specific primer where needed. Bare masonry, timber, metal and existing coatings have different routes to the undercoat.
For a useful specification check, share whether the surface is bare or previously treated, the name of the existing coating if known, and any visible damage or moisture exposure. Preparation products should be selected for that condition before the finishing material is applied.
Companion products to specify
The technical sheet references these materials for its preparation, thinning or coating scenarios. Confirm the scenario for your substrate.
Application and project planning.
Apply the prescribed undercoat layers before the compatible oil- or water-based topcoat identified for the system.
An undercoat and a primer have different roles. New bare material may still need its appropriate primer before this intermediate coat.
Measure the area to be treated and allow for the number of coats required by the coating system. Surface texture, absorption, application method and material losses can change the amount needed. Tell us the area and proposed system when requesting packs; the published coverage is a planning reference, not a guarantee of your project’s consumption.

Good questions, useful answers.
Can it sit beneath an emulsion finish?
The sheet lists compatible oil- or water-based topcoats in its system. Check the substrate and required primer as well as the finishing paint.
What should I include in my quotation?
Give the exact product name, requested pack size, quantity and relevant colour reference. Add the surface, application and destination so the product and delivery requirements can be checked together.
How do I choose the right pack and quantity?
Use the available pack choices and the quantity required by your coating or installation plan. Tell us the area, number of coats or relevant joint dimensions if you need help assembling a material list.
Can I confirm a colour from the product picture?
The image represents product packaging, not an exact shade match. Use a manufacturer colour reference for a coloured product, or specify that colour is not applicable for the material you need.
Keep the specification close.
Use the full manufacturer technical information when planning preparation and application. Include the exact product and system details when contacting KariVex about a quotation.
